How to Fix Error Code 0xc0000225 in Windows 10

Error code 0xc0000225

Error code 0xc0000225 occur due to corrupted boot configuration data (BCD). This means Windows is not able to find the system files required for booting. Error 0xc0000225 can also occur due to corrupt system files, bad configuration of disk file system, hardware faults etc.

Many users have encountered this error while updating Windows 10 or updating critical component of Windows. The computer restarts abruptly and you are left with error code 0xc0000225 on your screen and a computer that won’t boot.

But some troubleshooting methods can solve this issue. So let’s proceed to see the fix for this error.

 

Methods to Fix Error Code 0xc0000225 in Windows 10

 

Method 1: Run Automatic Repair

1. Insert Windows 10 installation DVD and restart your computer.

2. When prompted, press any key to continue.

3. Select your language preferences, and click Next. Click Repair your computer in the bottom-left corner of screen.

4. On Choose an option window, click on Troubleshoot.

5. On the Troubleshoot window, click on Advanced option.

6. On Advanced options window, click Automatic Repair.

7. Wait till Windows Automatic Repair process completes.

8. Restart your computer to see error code 0xc0000225 is fixed or not. If not, then try the next method.

 

Method 2: Repair your Boot sector or Rebuild BCD

1. Repeat steps 1-5 of Method 1.

2. Now, on Advanced options window, click Command Prompt.

3. Type the following commands one by one and hit Enter after each one:

a) bootrec.exe /FixMbr

b) bootrec.exe /FixBoot

c) bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd

4. If the above commands didn’t worked, then enter the below commands one by one and hit Enter after each one.

bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup

c:

cd boot

attrib bcd -s -h -r

ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old

bootrec /RebuildBcd

5. Exit Command Prompt and restart your computer. If the error is not fixed then try the next method.

 

Method 3: Mark partition as active using Diskpart

1. Open Command Prompt and type diskpart.

2. Now type the following commands:

DISKPART> select disk 1

DISKPART> select partition 1

DISKPART> active

DISKPART> exit

Note: Mark the System Reserved Partition (generally 100mb) active and if you don’t have a System Reserved Partition, then mark C: Drive as the active partition.

3. Restart your computer to apply changes.

 

Method 4: Restore MBR

1. Repeat steps 1-5 of Method 1.

2. Now, on Advanced options window, click Command Prompt.

3. Type the command bootsect /nt60 C: and hit Enter.

5. Wait till the process completes, then restart your computer.

 

Method 5: Run CHKDSK and SFC

1. Repeat steps 1-5 of Method 1.

2. Now, on Advanced options window, click Command Prompt.

3. Type the command given below and hit enter after each one:

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows

chkdsk c: /r

Note: Make sure you use the drive where Windows is installed.

5. Exit command prompt and restart your computer.
